WEATHER
CONDITIONS
Weather conditions: |
| The spring was late, but snowmelt was quick due to small amount of snow. Flood was lower than usual. Air temperature had pronounced fluctuations; abundant rains occurred between 5-7 July and 12-16 August. Precipitation from 5-7 July reached 100 mm, and all nests on gravel spits of the Bikada River were flooded. A period 16-22 August was hot.

Breeding conditions:
| Arctic Foxes were rare, and not breeding. Snowy Owls were seen, but did not breed, Buzzard was breeding with low density (5 nests/550 sq.km) and entirely unsuccessful. 90% of tundra bird nests were depredated by Arctic Foxes, including clutches of gulls, ducks and Brent Geese in colonies on the river islands. Ringed Plover nests were flooded. Early nesting passerines were more successful breeders than waders. Unusually numerous on breeding were Steller Eiders, while Red-necked Phalarope, Ruff, Temminck's Stint (recorded previously) were missing.

Rodent dynamics:
| A single Siberian Lemming was seen during summer.

Summary
of fauna studies: |
| Lemming counts using trap lines did not result in catching of a single animal. Also Arctic Fox dens were explored and nests of waders, anseriformes and gulls were searched for.
